Tom Shima, D.O.
Dr. Shima graduated from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of osteopathic medicine in Kansas City and then did a family medicine residency in Dallas, Texas.
He was the associate program director for the Methodist Charlton Family medicine residency program for 15 years but now works as a hospitalist in multiple hospitals. His true passion is medical missions and teaching and goes on 9 medical mission trips or teaching trips every year.
He has been on the board of Hand Philippines for 4 years now. He leads two trips a year to the Philippines bring along medical students interested in global health.
Brooke Rodrigue, BSN, RN
Brooke Rodrigue is a registered nurse, aesthetic medicine entrepreneur, and passionate advocate for the Filipino community. As the founder and owner of Maine Aesthetic Medicine in Portland, Maine, Brooke brings a diverse clinical background spanning pediatric nursing, maternity care, and medical-surgical nursing — alongside over a decade of aesthetic medicine expertise — to everything she does.
A former Board Chair, Brooke now leads the organization’s Fundraising Committee and serves as a nurse volunteer on medical mission trips, channeling her energy and network into sustainable community impact. She is also the beloved co-host of the annual HAND Philippines Gala — bringing warmth, elegance, and an unwavering commitment to the mission to one of the organization’s most celebrated events.
Brooke’s dedication to service reflects the heart of HAND-Philippines: community, compassion, and care that crosses borders.
Mark Griswold
Mark Griswold is a small business owner whose career has included more than 20 years in public health, working with state agencies, nonprofit organizations, and international partners.
He has been fortunate to contribute to projects that strengthened health systems and disease surveillance in a variety of settings. He values collaboration, curiosity, and building connections within his community.

HAND Officers
Reynerio "Lance" Lanoy, MD, MPH, FACP
Dr. Lanoy is the Co-Founder and President of HAND-Philippines. A board-certified internal medicine physician and Fellow of the American College of Physicians, he earned his medical degree from Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan and completed his internal medicine training at both the University of the Philippines and the Cleveland Clinic Akron General. He has also received a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Dr. Lanoy currently serves as a hospitalist at MaineGeneral Medical Center and several affiliated hospitals in Maine, while also teaching as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine.
Since founding HAND-Philippines in 2014, he has led medical and surgical missions, disaster response initiatives, and community health programs that expand access to quality healthcare for underserved communities across the Philippines.
Esther Tutor-Garcia, MD
Co-Founder of HAND-Philippines and Acting Vice President of Philippine Operations. Dr. Tutor-Garcia is a compassionate and dedicated physician with a Doctor of Medicine degree from Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines. She is currently working at Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center in Southern California.
She is a highly motivated physician and humanitarian leader whose professional and personal mission centers on service, compassion, and community development. Committed to improving lives of the underserved population through healthcare excellence, leadership, and sustainable humanitarian initiatives both locally and internationally.
Sarah Jordaan, RN, ASN
Sarah Jordaan, RN is a co-founder of HAND-Philippines and serves as Vice President of External Affairs. For more than a decade, she has helped lead medical missions to underserved communities in the Philippines, combining her passion for nursing, education, and humanitarian service. Sarah believes that healthcare is about more than treating illness—it is about building relationships, empowering communities, and creating opportunities for lasting change.
With over 27 years of healthcare experience and more than 17 years as a Registered Nurse, Sarah’s background includes emergency medicine, resuscitation, clinical leadership, and healthcare education. A former Emergency Department charge nurse and ACLS/PALS instructor, she is especially passionate about teaching life-saving skills to healthcare providers and community members alike.
Through HAND, Sarah is helping to develop sustainable education programs that equip local healthcare workers with the knowledge and confidence to continue saving lives long after mission teams return home. She is honored to serve alongside dedicated volunteers, local partners, and her own family in a shared mission to bring hope, compassion, and quality healthcare to those who need it most.
